Artisan hand-crafted, 100% wool bonnets and caps for film, stage, museums and re-enactments. I specialise mainly in the 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th Centuries but I also include the Comforts for the Troops knitted hats of the Second World War. My hats and caps can also be worn in modern day settings.
My most popular creation is the original Scots blue bonnet featured in the popular TV Series ‘Outlander’. I was commissioned by the wardrobe team to create a variety of coloured bonnets to be worn by the actors during the first series. See my Client list for more info.
In addition to this I have created later variations of the Scots bonnet, the Tam O’Shanter and the Kilmarnock Bonnet (Infantry Forage cap).
All my bonnets and caps are hand-knitted to an extremely high standard, to historically accurate designs, before being felted to give an authentic and weatherproof look. The wool is from British and Norwegian sheep of all varieties, some natural, some dyed, so my range of colours is wide and varied.
I also spin and dye some of my own wool .
If you are looking for a particular bonnet or cap from any period, I can supply. If you are unsure as to the type of bonnet or hat you are looking for, I can advise. Then all I need is head size and preferred colour.
I can post to anywhere in the world.
